University of California - Merced was founded in 1995 to meet the long-term enrollment requirement in the San Joaquin Valley. The University of California comprises the School of Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts, Health Sciences Research Institute, Sierra Nevada Research Institute, and School of Engineering.
