Medical College of Wisconsin

Established in 1893 with the objective of building a healthier world, Medical College of Wisconsin has today grown to become the third-largest private medical school in Wisconsin. Since then, the college has thrived in the pursuit of academic medicine and is the second-largest research institute in Wisconsin. Over time, MCW has successfully established itself as a leading generator of the next generation of scientists, pharmacists, physicians, and health professionals. At the heart of MCW sits the passion for transforming research to provide a far-reaching positive impact on the community's health. The institute has registered numerous groundbreaking discoveries in preventing, determining, and treating diseases and injuries. The first self-contained underwater breathing apparatus, commonly known as SCUBA devices that deep-sea divers use to prevent bends, was developed at MCW by Edgar End. Other notable MCW alumni include neurosurgeon and academic Olawale Sulaiman, molecular biologist Jeffery D. Molkentin, and the acting United States Secretary of Health and Human Services and the United States Ambassador to Tanzania Don J. Wright.
