Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

The first institute in the world to be established for researching and teaching in Tropical Science, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, was founded by Sir Alfred Lewis Jones in 1898. LSTM constantly works towards the objective and underlying objective of 'journeys to unknown destinations,' referring to the exploration of unknown research and cures in the field of tropical medicine. The School comprises four departments, first is the Department of International Public Health, focused on the use of research to strengthen health systems, guide policies, and improve health care. Second is the Department of Tropical Disease Biology, specializing in globally rated fundamental research on tropical parasites such as malaria, onchocerciasis, soil-transmitted helminthsicine, and lymphatic filariasis. Department of Clinical Sciences is the third, which deals with the improvement of the control of major diseases in the tropics. Last but not least is the Department of Vector Biology with a broad research profile. The founder of the first Australian Institute of Tropical Medicine, Australia, Anton Breinl, was also an alumnus of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.
