The University of Wuppertal, oficially called Bergische Universität Wuppertal was established in 1972. BUW has three campuses in Grifflenberg, Freudenberg,and in Haspel, Unterbarmen. The university offers a wide range of multidisciplinary programs and is comprised of seven faculties. The faculties are divided as follows: Humanities and Cultural Studies, Schumpeter School of Business and Economics, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Safety, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Media Technology, Design and Art, Education and Social Sciences. The university is recognized for its notable faculty members, some of which include art theorist Bazon Brock, mathematician Gerd Faltings, writer and historian of literature Lev Kopelev, archaeologist Dieter Vieweger, and economist Paul J. J. Welfens. BUW has often made it to international rankings and is mainly known for its physics programs globally. The university topped the charts of the majority of categories in CHE ranking, which analyzed German universities based on students' judgments, and unsurprisingly the faculty of economics secured a score even higher than the national average.
