The University of Rostock was established in 1419 and is the largest and oldest university in Northern Continental Europe. It falls in the category of public research universities and is situated in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. The institute has divided its research profile into four lines: Life, Light & Matter (LLM), Knowledge-Culture-Transformation., Maritime Systems, and Aging of Individuals and Society. The University of Rostock has the record of being the first institution in the world to award an honorary doctorate to Albert Einstein. The university also granted the honorary doctorate to Max Planck on the occasion of its 500th anniversary in 1919. The number of international students enrolling at Rostock is increasing every year, as the institution now houses students from more than 100 countries across the globe. In the six hundred years of imparting excellent education, the university has produced numerous distinguished alumni in almost all spheres of life.
