This Project was about the Space settlement at Lagrange point between earth and moon without extracting anything from the earth . It is all about establishing an exact colony like earth with all the facilities, amenities, environment we get on earth . Exporting people from the earth to the Space settled colony and providing the basic needs to all the luxuries there. Extracting all the required minerals , metals , inorganic stuff from the nearby asteroids and converting it to the usable ones so that plants, animals and humans can use it. Growing plants in hydroponic and aeroponic environment so that gases required for the survival of humans and animals can be received. The water extraction was done by electrolysis of Aluminum Oxide , nutrients required for the soil, metals required for the buildings and other infrastructure , other materials like the machineries required for the clothing, processing food ( Converting some fresh food into the processed ones for the longer shelf life),chemicals required for shampoos, toothpastes, hair dyes, processing food, clothing and automobile color, acids required for automobiles, cleansing actions ( extracted from the rocks present ),soaps (washing , bathing, detergents) breweries ( formation of alcohol through the molasses of grapes), was extracted from the nearby asteroids. The furniture and walls were made retractable with hard paper which was naturally and artificially made. The utensils were made from glass, silica required for it was extracted from the sand which was available on moon .The electricity required to run the appliances was majorly formed from the electrolysis method but for heavy factories and industries it was also generated from flowing water . the stagnant water available in big pools and puddles was made to swirl to generate electricity. The air was which was artificially made was made to flow in high speed to generate the electricity through windmills. Since humans are an indispensable part of it , recreation was a major challenge that we were facing, as all men and women were involved in the productive work required for the working and management of the settlement. Disposing the waste was done in soil, as the organic waste could be easily recycled. The inorganic waste was treated chemically. The drugs required for medication was mostly ayurvedic as the plants required for the same were grown.
This competition was NASA AMES organized by National Space Society and won by my students under my guidance in 2008. We were the world winners and were felicitated in Washington DC from May 29 to June 3, 2008.
The name of our Space settlement was Utopia. My students presented the project there in front of the delegates and we were also lucky to have dinner with his Sir Edwin Buzz Aldrin and Sir Anil Kumar, astrophysicist who was then a research scientist at NASA.
I have worked hard for the project and looking forward to do many more.
