GPA

Grade Point Average, abbreviated as GPA is a system of evaluating a student's academic performance that represents their average score cumulated during their course of study. It is an internationally recognized grading system and a crucial part of studying abroad. If you attended a university that does not use the GPA scale, it can meddle with your admission process. Read the instructions for application prerequisites carefully because some universities will want you to convert your score to a 4.0 - grade point average scale. Miscalculation can have a severely negative impact on your application. In this piece of writing, we present the most accurate method to help you calculate your score.

This article discusses the methodology for converting your percentage into a 4-point GPA as well as a 10-point GPA.

How to Convert Percentage to GPA?

Percentage to GPA Out of 4

The conversion table given below represents the GPA on a 4-point scale for a given category of percentages. It also consists of CGPA (10-point scale) and Grade equivalents of the respective scores. The 4.0 scale is predominantly used in the US so the following table can be very helpful for students aspiring to study there.

    GPA     Percentage    CGPA     Grade
4 85 - 100 > 8.5 A+
3.7 80 - 84 8.0 - 8.4 A+
3.3 75 - 79 7.5 - 7.9 B+
3 70 - 74 7.0 - 7.4 B
2.7 65 - 69 6.5 - 6.9 B-
2.3 60 - 64 6.0 - 6.4 C+
2 55 - 59 5.5 - 5.9 C
1.7 50 - 54 5.0 - 5.4 C-
1.3 45 - 49 4.5 - 4.9 D
1 40 - 44 4.0 - 4.4 D
0 0 - 39 0 - 3.9 F

NOTE: Do not use this formula to convert your percentage to GPA: (Percentage/100)*4 = GPA on 4.0 scale. Linear conversion formulas like these are misleading and hence give you a false picture of your GPA.

Percentage to GPA Out of 10

Formula:  GPA= Percentage/9.5

Divide your percentage by 9.5 to convert it to a 10-point scale. Here is an example to clear any clouds of confusion that you might have:

For instance, if you got 92%, your GPA equals 92/9.5 which is 9.6. The table given below will make it, even more, easier to understand the concept:

    CGPA     Percentage
10 95
9 85.5
8 76
7 66.5
6 57
5 47.5
4 38

Conclusion

The procedures explained in this article are extremely accurate, however, there are universities that have customized conversion methods. Go through the instructions laid down by your desired university carefully before applying the conversions present here.
