The highly revered Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which stands as the best university in the world for multiple fields and the dream destination for thousands of students, has also dropped the GRE requirement due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
The Mechanical Engineering Department of MIT has decided to waive the GRE requirement for the 2023 academic session. Thus, GRE scores are not going to be taken into consideration for determining admission for this term.
The monumental Stanford Graduate School of Education is waiving the GRE requirement for Spring and Fall 2023 as a response to the global health crisis posed by the coronavirus pandemic. GSE will not require the GRE for admission for the 2023-2024 academic year. Some GSE programs will also accept GRE scores but they will still remain optional.
The university has opened applications for the applicants seeking fall entry and the decisions are expected to be released by March.
UCLA's top-ranked College of Physical Sciences is dropping the GRE requirement for the Fall 2023 admissions for graduate programs.
They have also stated that The applications with GRE scores will not be given greater weight than those that do not include scores.
The GRE requirements vary from program to program, and the concerned department should be contacted to confirm the waiver.
The highly selective California Institute of Technology is keeping the GRE requirement optional.
Cal Tech's Graduate Studies Office quotes, 'GRE tests (general and advanced subject) are not required and in most options scores will not be considered for admission.'
The applications devoid of GRE scores are well-received by the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the University of Michigan Ann-Arbor.
They have stated that 'Due to the ongoing pandemic, GRE scores for this admissions cycle are neither required nor expected.'

GRE scores are no longer required for applying as Ph.D. applicants to UMass-Amherst in the College of Information & Computer Sciences.

The magnificent Ivy League, Yale University, does not even accept GRE scores for a wide range of programs including the Ph.D. program in Computer Science.
Although the table generated for checking the GRE requirement is for the 2022-23 application cycle, the programs that do not accept GRE scores can be worth looking at.
The University of California System's world-leading public research university has waived GRE as an admission requirement for Ph.D., M.S./Ph.D., and M.S degrees in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department.
The university has specifically mentioned that the Berkeley EECS does not require nor accept GRE scores anymore.
The Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD has dropped the GRE requirement for candidates with more than two years of work experience. The university has specified that GRE scores will not affect their application for the Master of Advanced Study Degree.
The Graduate School of Public and International Affairs has kept the GRE score submission optional. In fact, the score submission is not required for admission at all.
However, this doesn't hold true for Ph.D. applications and remains valid only for master's applicants.
Students applying to MPA, MPIA, or MID programs can also submit the scores as supplemental material to strengthen their application.
The David Eccles School of Business has kept the GRE requirement optional, but applicants who have scored well can submit their reports to strengthen their application.
Official scores can take up to four weeks to reach the university.
The New Jersey Institute of Technology has made the GRE/GMAT requirements optional for several academic colleges due to the complexities of the COVID situation. The following are the requirements as per the colleges:
- College of Science and Liberal Arts: The GRE test scores are optional for all MS applicants and Ph.D. programs, except for Ph.D. in Mathematical Sciences.
- Martin Tuchman School of Management: Applicants with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 may get a GRE waiver from the university. However, all Ph.D. applicants are required to submit the GRE/GMAT scores.
- Hillier College of Architecture and Design: The institution has made the GRE score submission optional for all Master's applicants as well as Ph.D. aspirants.
Rochester Institute of Technology has waived the GRE requirement selectively for various programs. Please visit the page attached as a link below to see if the GRE is waived for your program.
Notably, Applied and Computational Mathematics MS, Applied Statistics MS, Astrophysical Sciences and Technology MS as well as PhD, and Business Administration–Executive MBA, among others, do not require the GRE.
The City College of New York has dropped the GRE requirement for a number of programs. This includes the Computer Science - M.S.

The State University of New York's Binghamton University has kept the GRE requirement optional for several programs including the MS in Computer Science degree. GRE is highly recommended but not required for admission to the College of Engineering at Michigan State University.
Different faculty weigh GRE scores differently, and the University does not disregard any applicant based on GRE score whether or not they submit it.
As a result of the coronavirus complexities, many departments have waived the standardized test score requirement.
In fact, the graduate admission website states that "many programs have policies to waive the standardized test requirement." Further information is available on the specific graduate program's web page.
Neither GRE nor GMAT is required for admissions to the Graduate Programs at NYU. However, if a candidate wishes to submit the test scores, they should upload the scores before submitting the application.
NYU website mentions that test scores received after the application submission will not be processed unless demanded by the Admissions Committee.
GWU has kept the GRE and GMAT test score submission optional for graduate students. The Master's of Science in Finance clearly states that the scores are optional. However, if an applicant is submitting the scores, the test date must be within the past five years.
Even the Doctoral Admission web page has mentioned that the GRE exam is optional for Spring 2023 and Fall 2023.
The Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and Driehaus College of Business have turned the graduate admission process easier by keeping the GRE/GMAT scores optional.
The GRE score submission is no longer a metric for assessment for the USC Viterbi School of Engineering as of September 7, 2021. As per the university website, the GRE scores are not required for Spring 2023 and Fall 2023; hence any scores submitted will not be reviewed by the admission office.
Drexel’s College of Engineering is keeping the GRE score submission optional for both Ph.D. and master’s applications.
Applicants are not required to submit the GRE score to Oregon State University for a number of programs.
This list of programs includes Computer Science and Engineering and Bioengineering.
GRE scores are not even accepted by the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. In fact, test scores sent as a part of the application will not be reviewed.
Yet, there is a section in the application portal to enter the GRE test scores and applicants should not enter the GRE scores over there.
This information is applicable to the MS programs in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
Rice aspirants may submit the GRE scores if it is reflective of their strong academic standing. Otherwise, score submission is optional and GRE subject test scores are not required.

UCSB's Graduate Division webpage states that the GRE is required for a couple of graduate degree programs, but not all of them. Therefore, it is recommended to view the departmental page to confirm admission requirements.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has chosen to waive off the GRE so as to encourage applicants to apply, regardless of whether they have been able to take the test. However, they do recommend that you submit GRE scores, if possible. Hence, you may see the applicants with a decent GRE score gain an edge at this university over the applicants who do not submit a score. Yet, it is possible to apply to North Carolina - Chapel Hill without a GRE score.
ASU has come out with GRE waivers for the Fall 2023 term. However, given the university's competitive admissions, they strongly recommend the submission of a GRE test score. You may still apply without the GRE scores.

The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department at Carnegie Mellon University is not accepting GRE scores nor considering them for the Spring and Fall 2023 admissions cycles.
The Electrical & Computer Engineering Department is also not accepting GRE scores for the Spring 2023 cycle.

SUNY is dropping GMAT/GRE test requirements for experienced or accomplished applicants to its full-time MBA program. This is based on the submission of your resume and transcripts first, and the decision is made on the basis of these documents.
The submission of GRE scores is optional for the M.S. Information Systems degree at the School of Information Studies in Syracuse for the incoming students of 2023.
Students are still encouraged to submit the scores if they take the exam.
The GRE is waived for:
- Civil & Environmental Engineering
- Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering
- Biomedical & Chemical Engineering.
Also, Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics no longer requires the GRE test scores for master's programs in 2023.
The College of Engineering and Computer Science does not need you to take the GRE to apply for the master's programs offered by the Department of Engineering and Computer Science.

The Department of Computer Science has specifically mentioned that the GRE scores are optional for submitting the application. However, test scores are one of the parameters for application evaluation. Therefore, if an applicant has written the GRE, it is advisable to submit the test scores.
The University of Southern Mississippi has made the GRE requirements optional for several Master's and Ph.D. courses. Course-wise application requirements are mentioned on the university website.
Ph.D. in Psychology, Master's in English, and Ph.D. in English are some of the academic courses that do not require GRE test scores.
Stony Brook University had changed its Graduate School Requirements policy and issued a notice in July 2020 that the GRE will continue to be waived for the next two years.
Considering the impact of the pandemic on admissions, the Graduate Council has decided to extend the waiver for another year. You can take advantage of these waivers for Spring 23 and Fall 23 applications. However, certain programs may still continue to require the GRE.
The Graduate School is not considering GRE scores as a part of the MSDS admissions process. The UW Graduate School has explicitly stated that applicants should not submit GRE scores along with their application.
The University of the Pacific has stated that applicants who have not appeared for the GRE can directly request their program of interest for a GRE score waiver, which will be reviewed in case-by-case cases.
Moreover, the School of Engineering and Computer Science has waived off the GRE and GMAT requirement for the MS Data Science program.
Submission of GRE test scores has been suspended for several programs. Vanderbilt has recently updated their list of GRE-exempt programs. Some major programs that do not require GRE test scores are Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Data Science.
The Madden School of Business does not require GMAT/GRE test scores for admission consideration. They have specified on the website that applicants with either a 3.0 GPA or a minimum of 5 years of relevant full-time job experience are not required to submit GRE scores. However, if someone has less than a 3.0 GPA or limited work experience, the Graduate Admission Office may demand GRE/GMAT test scores.
The Department of Public Health Sciences has waived the GRE requirements. However, they have specified that students will have the option to upload their scores if they have appeared for the GRE to support their application.
Numerous graduate courses offered by the University of Maine do not require GRE test scores. The university has updated its list of GRE-waived graduate programs. Here are some of the courses which are not accepting GRE scores as a part of the application process:
The Business School at Worcester Polytechnic Insititute has kept the GRE requirement optional for all programs except Ph.D. in Business Administration.
GRE scores are no longer required for applying to MS and Ph.D. programs at the University of Idaho. The university has listed the application prerequisite for each course on the department webpage.
GRE test scores are not required for application evaluation; however, the university encourages students to submit their scores. Test scores are also not required for applying as Ph.D. applicants.
George Mason University has waived the GRE exam requirement for most programs for Spring and Fall 2023 applications. In fact, GRE test scores submission is not required for all Ph.D. programs, except Bioengineering and System Engineering & Operations Research.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on academia, students are not required to submit their GRE scores for applying to Dayton University. However, the university welcomes candidates who are willing to submit their GRE scores in support of their application.
The Computer Science and Engineering Department at the School of Engineering does not require GRE scores for M.Eng. programs. However, MS applicants need to submit their GRE test scores as a part of the application process.
